How does a Thule awning work?

Thule awnings have a manual wind out system.

  • Park so the awning side is level or slightly lower than the opposite side if rain is expected. This helps water drain away.

  • Insert the supplied crank handle into the winding eye.

  • Turn the handle anti-clockwise (on most models) to extend the awning about 1 metre (3 feet). Don’t extend it fully yet.
  • Continue winding until the awning reaches the desired projection (typically up to 2.5 m depending on the model).

  • Secure to the ground using pegs (best on grass).
  • Or to the side of the van using the supplied wall brackets (useful on hard standing where pegs aren’t practical).
  • Raise or lower each leg so the fabric is taut.

Can I have an awning with a pop top?

Yes. Thule awnings are available in a range of sizes to accommodate all campervans with or without a pop top or an existing awning rail.
